ACDIS launches Physician Queries Boot Camp

Press Releases, June 15, 2011

HCPro, Inc., and ACDIS, the Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists, today unveiled the new Physician Queries Boot Camp, an interactive two-day training program for clinical documentation improvement (CDI) specialists covering the latest information on regulations and industry guidance for physician queries and a review of actual medical records.

Participants will learn how to look at the records from an auditor's point of view and decide what needs further clarification. They will craft compliant verbal and written queries that ensure a complete and accurate medical record, minimize RAC risk, and get physicians to respond.

Individual and small group workshop exercises are designed to provide take-away worksheets participants can use to develop or strengthen their program's policies and procedures. This course is designed not only for CDI specialists, but for HIM/coding professionals, case managers, and physician advisors.

"We are excited to unveil the Physician Queries Boot Camp," says Brian Murphy, ACDIS Director. “The best way to learn is with hands-on experience reviewing medical records and drafting appropriate written queries, or formulating effective verbal queries. That's what this class is designed to do.

"CDI specialists have a unique working relationship with physicians and other clinicians to develop the thorough, compliant documentation that ensures appropriate reimbursement," Murphy says. "This custom, hands-on training will help CDI professionals excel in their important role and protect their facilities against RAC recoupments. Our surveys have shown that many CDI programs don't have a query policy and procedure in place. This course will also teach students how to address situations like non-responsive physicians and develop processes to ensure a 100% response rate."

Like every HCPro boot camp, this class uses custom-designed materials that are developed specifically for this intensive learning format. Participants will work independently and in small groups and review actual medical records to receive an authentic experience by formulating queries. Credentialed instructors have dozens of years of experience working as CDI specialists and consultants in the field.

The first two classes will be held in Boston on September 26 - 27, and in Chicago on September 29 - 30.  For a complete list of class locations and dates, course agenda, and learning objectives, visit www.hcprobootcamps.com and click on the tab for Physician Queries Boot Camp.
