ASCs in the news: CMS grants continued recognition to two ASC accreditors
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, December 2, 2008
On November 14, CMS published final notices in the Federal Register granting continued recognition to both The Joint Commission and the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) as national accreditation programs for ambulatory surgical centers seeking to participate in the Medicare or Medicaid programs. According to the notices, each organization amended some of its standards to meet CMS’ requirements.
The Federal Register lists 20 amendments that AAAHC made to maintain its recognition as a national accreditation program. All but three of these were administrative or operational; the rest were clinical.
Similarly, the Federal Register lists 15 amendments made by The Joint Commission to meet CMS standards, of which four addressed clinical practices while the rest were administrative or operational.
