ASCs in the news: CMS releases ASC payment schedules for fourth quarter 2008 and 2009; ASC Association makes CMS rule details accessible
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, November 18, 2008
Lost in the excitement over publication of the 2009 ASC final rule was CMS’ release of the fourth quarter update to the 2008 ASC payment system in Transmittal 1611, dated October 3.
Changes include three new drugs separately payable under the ASC payment system, ASC payment updates for seven HCPCS codes, and changes to policy for ASC brachytherapy payments required by the Medicare Improvement for Patients and Providers Act of 2008. To read the entire Transmittal, click here.
In other news, the November 11 issue of ASRU provided and overview of the 2009 OPPS/ASC final rule. The ASC Association Web site has since posted a chart of the 27 new procedures, 21 deletions, as well as several other resources related to the 2009 final rule and payment policies.
