In laparoscopic total hysterectomy procedures, the surgeon detaches both the uterine cervix and body completely from their surrounding support structures using a laparoscope, and also sutures the vaginal cuff using the a laparoscope.

The CPT codes for these procedures include:

  • 58571—Laparoscopic total hysterectomy for uterus 250g or less; with removal of tube(s) and/or ovary(s)
  • 58572—Laparoscopic total hysterectomy for uterus greater than 250g
  • 58573—Laparoscopic total hysterectomy for uterus greater than 250g; with removal of tube(s) and/or ovary(s)

None of the laparoscopic total hysterectomy procedures are currently listed on the Medicare list of covered procedures for ASCs.
