Ensuring compliance with the National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG) is essential for every accredited hospital. How to accomplish this is less clear and will vary by hospital. Since compliance is not only a requirement for accreditation but also projected to be a core element of the new hospital performance reports, noncompliance will create significant risk for your hospital.

Let’s take a look at how the NPSGs will fit into the Joint Commission (formerly JCAHO) performance improvement (PI) framework of Plan, Design, Measure, Analyze, and Improve.
