DM, wellness vendors can help transformation

Disease management (DM) and wellness vendors have a role to play in helping transform the U.S. healthcare system into one based on the patient-centered medical home approach, two leading advocates of that approach say.
The transformation needs to occur because the current healthcare system doesn’t take good care of patients with chronic disease, said Bruce Bagley, MD, medical director for quality improvement of the Academy of Family Physicians, who told vendors that doctors need their help.
“This probably needs to become one of your new market segments—trying to help medical practices transform,” Bagley told a largely vendor- and health plan–based audience on a Webcast sponsored by DMAA: The Care Continuum Alliance.
