Tip: Compile list of 'make or break' criteria when selecting EHR system
EHR Connection, September 29, 2008
Organizations in the process of selecting and implementing an EHR should compile a set of vital selection criteria to use while waiting for vendors to respond to a request for proposal (RFP).
Organizations should rank or assign weights to each criterion while waiting for responses to RFPs. A list of criteria aids in evaluating vendor responses.
Relevant vendor criteria include:
- Key functionality
- Vendor viability to continue as a strong player in the marketplace
- Vendor technical support
- Training support
- Implementation effort and approach
- Implementation support
- Technology/architecture
- Vision (research and development vision)
- Integration
- Vendor’s clinical culture
- Return on investment
- Cost relative to budget
