Jury awards $5.5 million in shooting outside hospital
Healthcare Security Weekly, September 15, 2008
A jury awarded $5.5 million to the family of a parking lot attendant killed outside Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia.
The family of 18-year-old William Palmer sued the hospital in connection with the May 30, 2006 shooting death, reported NBC10.com. Palmer was shot in the chest during a robbery and struggled to run into the hospital for help, the news station reported.
Testimony indicated that a security company recommended the hospital install bulletproof glass in the parking booth or make the parking garage automated just six months before Palmer was shot and killed. The hospital said in a statement it is disappointed with the verdict and is reviewing its legal options, according to NBC10.com
