Missouri hospital to stop officers from carrying Tasers
Healthcare Security Weekly, September 15, 2008
Safety and security officers at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, MO, will no longer carry Tasers starting later this month.
The decision, effective September 29, came as a result of changes in hospital regulations and government and industry reviews, hospital officials indicated in a staff newsletter, reported the Springfield News-Leader.
A hospital spokesman said the decision was based on concerns by hospital accrediting agencies over the use of restraints, including Tasers. The hospital will hire 10 additional security officers, the newspaper reported.
