Tip of the week: Reduce UTIs
Infection Control Monitor, September 12, 2008
At Memorial Hospital in York, PA, staff members have adopted a urinary tract infections (UTI) bundle which has succeeded in reducing the number of infections at the facility.
One of the last pieces of the bundle—and one that has proven among the most important—was implemented in May: removing catheters as soon as they were no longer necessary. Each day, nursing staff members and physicians are asked to assess patients to determine whether the catheter can be removed.
To read more about this performance improvement project, go to www.hcpro.com/content/216343.cfm. The cost is $10. Briefings on Infection Control subscribers received this story free with their subscriptions.
