California migrant farm workers to have PHRs
EHR Connection, September 1, 2008
California will fund a project to provide PHRs for approximately 5,000 migrant farm workers and their families, Government Health IT reported August 6.
The state’s Department of Managed Health Care is supporting the project with a $444,500 grant, according to the article. “This grant will help to improve health care for local farm workers, using advanced technology that will allow them to bring their personal health histories with them as they travel throughout the state to harvest crops,” Cindy Ehnes, the department’s director, said in a statement.
Patients will access their records via a Web portal, according to the article. They will have the option of allowing their physicians to view and update their records via a similar password-controlled portal.
