800,000 Medicaid patients' information instantly available in database

The South Carolina Health Information Exchange (SCHIEx) has made the medical histories of 800,000 Medicaid patients available to physicians, clinics, and hospitals, The Post and Courier reported July 21. Claims data already existed electronically but was not immediately to providers before implementation of the new system, Jeff Stensland, director of public information for the state’s Medicaid agency, told the newspaper.
