Suicides prompt protocol review at Tampa hospital

Officials at a Tampa, FL, hospital are reviewing safety protocols and procedures after two psychiatric patients committed suicide at the facility in July.
The deaths occurred in the 22-bed psychiatric ward at Tampa General Hospital, reported The Tampa Tribune. A 44-year-old Tampa woman hanged herself July 21 with a bed sheet on a closet door between 15-minute security checks, according to a police report. She died later that day. On July 23, a 28-year-old Tampa man hanged himself in the same manner. He was revived by staff, but later died.
Officials conducted a formal review of the deaths, which were reported to the state’s Agency for Health Care Administration and federal health agencies., the Tribune reported.
