Tip of the week: Education by any means necessary
Healthcare Security Weekly, August 11, 2008
One way to educate hospital staff is through constant communication in every outlet the hospital has available for your use: safety and general employee newsletters, Web sites, leaflets, all-employee and department-specific e-mails, and signs, says Howard Hunt, safety officer at Summa Health System in Akron, OH. All of these formats can help reiterate what employees need to know about your policies, plans, and expectations.
“It’s hard to reach everybody,” says Hunt, who publishes general-interest safety materials (e.g., how to avoid sunburns) that he places on tables close to the cafeteria for employees to take. He manages to sneak some Environment of Care info into each of these handouts.
To learn more, go to www.hcpro.com/ppv-214771.html. The cost is $10. Briefings on Hospital Safety subscribers received this story with their subscriptions.
