Tip of the week: NPSGs require finding time to train staff
Infection Control Monitor, August 8, 2008
The Joint Commission has announced its 2009 National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG), and they include requirements for providing proper education to staff members, as well as patients and their families, on IC issues.
In addition to paying for staff training, finding the time for this training may be a challenge. “When it come to education, we’re going to have to train the trainer,” says Libby Chinnes, RN, BSN, CIC, an IC consultant at IC Solutions, LLC, in Mount Pleasant, SC. ICPs will need to enlist the help of other staff members, such as members of staff development, to be certain the training reaches everyone it needs to reach.
