Minister sues hospital and security guards
Healthcare Security Weekly, August 4, 2008
An Ohio minister has filed suit against a Toledo hospital and a group of security guards he says attacked him while he was visiting the facility last year.
Rev. Alford Poisson said during the July 21, 2007 incident at least five security officers grabbed him in front of witnesses, including his six-year-old grandson. According to the lawsuit, the guards were “outraged” when the minister remarked that they did not have a sense of humor, reported WSAV-TV News 3.
Poisson says in the lawsuit that he was sworn at, escorted out of the hospital, and then kicked and shocked with a stun gun, the TV station reported. The incident was recorded by the hospital’s security cameras. The head of security at the hospital told the television station that there are two sides to every story and stun guns are generally used in self-defense. Assault charges filed by the hospital after the confrontation were dismissed.
