ONCHIT initiative focuses on medical identity theft
EHR Connection, July 28, 2008
HHS’ Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONCHIT) will sponsor a one-day town hall meeting in October to enable healthcare experts to share their knowledge of and experience with medical identity theft, according to an announcement on the agency’s Web site.
The meeting is part of an ONCHIT initiative in which Booz Allen Hamilton, a global consulting firm, will assess the scope of the medical identity theft problem in the United States, according to the announcement.
A subsequent report will summarize health information technology and medical identity theft concerns raised at the town meeting. The report also will discuss possible next steps for the federal government and other stakeholders to take to prevent, detect, and remediate medical identity theft.
