Tip of the week: Get involved in the early stages of construction
Infection Control Monitor, July 18, 2008
Infection risks to patients during construction can be serious, which is why it is important that ICPs get involved with the project right from the predesign phase, says Marie Fornof, RN, BSN, CIC, manager of infection prevention at Denver Health.
Being involved during the initial stages of construction allows you to have input into the process up front and gives you the ability to head off potential problems in the planning and building phases. It also lets you establish your credibility with construction and allows workers to view you as a partner, not just a monitor, in your shared project.
For more tips on handling construction projects, go to www.hcpro.com/content/214534.cfm. The cost is $10. Briefings on Infection Control subscribers receive this story free with their subscriptions.
