Tip: List of CDS benefits in ambulatory EHRs continues
EHR Connection, July 7, 2008
Ambulatory EHR systems commonly include a set of clinical decision support (CDS) tools. This is the third installment in a series on CDS tools and their value as part of an ambulatory EHR system.
· Order set/Protocol: Provides a quick way to order sets of tests and medications
· Medication checking: Alerts physicians about drug contraindications
· Differential diagnosis: Offers potential differential diagnosis, often suggesting diagnoses that may be more obscure or unusual, through data entered or validated when reviewing patient self-assesment
· Evaluation and management (E&M) coding support: Offers recommendation for E&M code based on procedures documented in EHR during visit
This tip is from The No-Hassle Guide to EHR Implementation published by HCPro, Inc. Check future issues of EHR Connection for more information about the value of CDS tools in ambulatory EHR systems.
