Massachusetts Blue Cross to partner with Google Health

EHR Connection, July 7, 2008

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts will be the first insurer to allow its members to import personal claims data to their Google Health profiles, Computerworld reported June 12.

Google Health is a Web site where consumers can store medical data online in PHRs.

Massachusetts Blue Cross members will be able to manage all their health information at Google Health and share it with any healthcare provider once integration is complete, according to the article. Insurers are seen as the key to providing adequate data to populate PHRs because they have claims data that spans various physicians, hospitals, and pharmacies.

“Our members tell us they want easier and more portable access to their health care information,” Steven Fox, the insurer's vice president of provider network management, said in a statement. “Having this information in one place can play an important role in managing a member's health and in helping members and their doctors make health care decisions that can improve the quality of care they receive.”
