Lawsuit settled in alleged hospital beating
Healthcare Security Weekly, July 14, 2008
A lawsuit brought against Cook County in Illinois by an elderly stroke victim who said he was attacked by Stroger Hospital security officers has been settled.
In the lawsuit, the 78-year-old man said he was dragged from his car by hospital security officers in September 2006 while he was parked outside the hospital complex waiting for his wife, the Associated Press (AP) reported. He will receive a $425,000 settlement from the Cook County government, the AP said.
The lawsuit named three hospital security officers who were accused of beating the man and ripping a camera away from a county employee who captured the attack, the AP reported. In a turnabout, the elderly man is being sued by one of the officers who says his reputation was tarnished after the incident.
