Security guard charged with promoting cop-killing in YouTube video
Healthcare Security Weekly, July 7, 2008
Police arrested a security guard—who worked at a hospital where a Philadelphia police officer died last fall after being shot by a robber—and charged him with posting an Internet video of himself waving a gun and saying he rejoices whenever a city police officer is shot.
The 44-year-old security guard, whose arrest documents say works at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, faces charges of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, corruption of the morals of a minor, and harassment for posting the video on YouTube, the Associated Press (AP) reported.
In the video, which has been removed from the Web site, the security guard is shown waving a gun as he complains about police officers in the city’s 18th police district in West Philadelphia, where he lives, the AP reported. Three city police officers have been killed in the line of duty in just over two years.
The video was posted June 7 and an arrest warrant was issued after police identified the man and arrested him June 26. A spokesman for the medical center told Channel CBS 3 that the hospital suspended the security guard pending the outcome of the legal proceedings.
