ONCHIT releases comprehensive plan to advance health IT
EHR Connection, June 30, 2008
HHS’ Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONCHIT) released a comprehensive plan for advancing health information technology (IT), according to a June 3 press release.
The ONC-Coordinated Federal Health IT Strategic Plan will serve as a guide to coordinate federal efforts to establish a nationwide interoperable health IT infrastructure in the public and private sectors, ONCHIT stated in the press release.
Efforts pertaining to patient-focused healthcare and population health will strive for higher quality and more cost-efficient care through electronic health information use and access. A second goal is appropriate, authorized, and timely access and use of electronic health information to benefit public health, biomedical research, quality improvement, and emergency preparedness.
