Legislation would create RI patient safety organization
Quality Improvement Monitor, June 27, 2008
A bill sent to Rhode Island Governor Donald Carcieri this week would create a state patient safety organization to encourage better reporting of medical errors.
The Rhode Island Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act of 2008 is intended to reduce the “unacceptably high” number of preventable medical errors in Rhode Island’s healthcare system, said the legislation’s sponsors, Rep. Joseph M. McNamara (D-Dist. 19, Warwick, Cranston) and Sen. Rhoda E. Perry (D-Dist. 3, Providence), in a press release.
The patient safety organization would issue an annual report on patient safety and quality improvement and meet with leadership of the state’s hospitals and healthcare facilities to address systems concerns and to advance quality through adoption of best practices.
