Texas physicians slow to join EMR bandwagon
EHR Connection, June 23, 2008
A survey by the Texas Medical Association reveals that only a third of the state’s physicians use an EMR system, up from 27% in 2005, The Dallas Morning News reported May 28.
Some physicians say the transition is too costly and that time spent sitting at a computer entering information from paper folders is better spent treating patients, according to the article. They also express concerns that the benefit of sharing information easily may be good in theory but difficult when systems are incompatible. Physicians also say vendor pricing secrecy prevents them from assessing whether they are getting a good deal and 10% of respondents say estimates exceeded actual cost by more than half.
One fourth of the 473 survey respondents have no plans to implement an EHR system, the newspaper reported.
