ASCs in the news: ASC Association says payment legislation needs your help
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, June 17, 2008
The ASC Association Web site reports that action on the Ambulatory Surgical Center Medicare Payment Modernization Act of 2007 remains before Congress. Representatives Kendrick Meek (D-FL) and Wally Herger (R-CA) introduced the bill (H.R.1823) to the House March 29, 2007, and Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID) introduced it as S. 2250 before the Senate October 26, 2007.
Chief among its improvements, H.R. 1823/S.2250 sets the payment rate for ASC services at 75% of the hospital outpatient department payment rate, the ASC Association says, rather than the 65% rate generally set by the new Medicare payment system.
The ASC Association urges you to write to your Senators and Representatives and ask them to support the Ambulatory Surgical Center Medicare Payment Modernization Act of 2007. The Association also suggests that you invite your elected representatives to your facility so they can view firsthand the commitment to quality care shared by all ASCs.
