National Guard helps with security at flooded hospital

Healthcare Security Weekly, June 16, 2008

The flooding in Indiana has devastated the Columbus (IN) Regional Hospital, which was forced to close its doors.

The National Guard has helped provide security at the hospital after flood waters poured into the basement forcing patients to other facilities and employees into new jobs—that of cleanup and recovery, reported WISH TV 8 news.

Inside the hospital is a dark, muddy mess that one hospital official described as a war zone, the TV station reported. The hospital CEO said the basement is unrecognizable and will likely have to be gutted. The facility is doing what it can to reopen as quickly as possible, but repairs are expected to take weeks if not months.
