Tip of the week: Keep focus on infection prevention
Infection Control Monitor, June 6, 2008
ICPs are waiting and watching as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) determines whether to add more IC-related conditions to its existing list of preventable conditions. The result may be an increased surveillance burden for ICPs.
In the meantime, if ICPs feel they are being spread too thin by all the demands on their time, it’s critical to focus on good infection prevention. “Preventative work is really the place to put your efforts,” says Terrie Lee, RN, MS, MPH, CIC, director of clinical epidemiology and employee health at Charleston (WV) Area Medical Center.
To learn more about CMS’ proposal and what it means to ICPs, go to www.hcpro.com/content/212426.cfm. The cost is $10. Briefings on Infection Control subscribers received this story with their subscriptions.
