Lab Safety Advisor, June 2, 2008

-
Scaffolding
-
Hazard communication
-
Fall protection
-
Respiratory protection
-
Lockout/tagout
-
Powered industrial trucks
-
Electrical wiring
-

-

-
General electrical
Although lab employees aren’t involved with scaffolding or powered trucks in the workplace, the others do come into play. Here are some issues you need to address:
-
Have you done your material safety data sheet (MSDS) audit for this year and do you have all of the appropriate MSDS in place?
-
Are spills and clutter removed to avoid slips and falls?
-
Have your employees that use a respirator been properly face fit tested?
-
Is a lockout/tagout system in place when performing equipment repair?
-
Are all electrical plugs grounded?
-
Are ladders and step stools used and stored appropriately?
Don’t let your lab become an OSHA statistic.
