DM industry eyes partnership with physicians

The population health management industry, which for many years seemed to focus far more heavily on patient engagement than on physician engagement, is starting to work toward partnering with doctors as some health plans and the industry’s association embrace the concept of the patient-centered medical home.
That’s the word from industry and health plan leaders at the annual Disease Management Colloquium, where various speakers detailed the anticipated costs and the rising incidence of chronic disease and focused on physicians’ roles in disease management (DM), wellness, and care management as a possible way to improve care management and patient buy-in to programs.
