Tip of the week: Select topics for your HVA
Healthcare Security Weekly, June 2, 2008
The Joint Commission (formerly JCAHO) requires hospitals to use a hazards vulnerability analysis (HVA) to help identify, evaluate, and prioritize events that affect a facility’s ability to provide services.
You will want to list general categories of events that can happen, such as technological events, followed by specific examples, such as electrical, water, or communication failures. Use past incident reports, relevant local data, and experience to determine different events to include in your HVA. Critical systems and utilities are also good sources for determining events.
