Consumers Union to start rating hospitals

Quality Improvement Monitor, May 30, 2008

Consumers Union is starting a new service that will rate hospitals on their quality of care, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The nonprofit, which publishes Consumer Reports magazine, already offers ratings of drugs, medical treatments and health plans.

The new online program will look at about 3,000 organizations and will show how intensely hospitals treat patients on a scale of zero for the most conservative to 100 for the most aggressive, the paper said.
