First case of bird flu reported in Bangladesh

Infection Control Monitor, May 23, 2008

Bangladesh’s Health Ministry said this week that health officials have detected that country’s first human case of the H5N1 avian flu.

A child, who was recovering after treatment, was infected by the virus in January, reported the Associated Press (AP). The case was diagnosed by the CDC in Atlanta.

Bangladesh has slaughtered hundreds of thousands of birds in recent months after the H5N1 virus was detected last year, the AP reported.
