AMA encourages e-prescribing by physicians
EHR Connection, May 26, 2008
The AMA highlighted its support for e-prescribing and outlined steps to advance efforts to encourage broader adoption at a recent meeting with stakeholders at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC, according to a May 9 press release.
The AMA supports a national framework that includes uniform e-prescribing standards and a transition period for physician adoption, according to its press release.
During the meeting, Steven Sack, MD, an emergency physician and AMA board member, discussed AMA efforts to address adoption barriers among physicians and the important role that e-prescribing will play in transforming healthcare.
"E-prescribing can serve as a means to improve patient safety, enhance care coordination among health care providers, and reduce administrative burdens that take physicians away from patients," said Stack.
