Kaiser Permanente provides outpatient EHR access to 8.7 million
EHR Connection, May 19, 2008
All of Kaiser Permanente’s 8.7 million enrollees in nine states and the District of Columbia now have access to HealthConnect, an outpatient EHR that the healthcare provider says is the world’s largest privately-funded EHR, the San Francisco Business Times reported May 5.
Kaiser officials told the newspaper that outpatient implementation began in Hawaii four years ago and was completed in Northern California earlier this month. All of the provider’s 13,000 physicians nationwide now have electronic access to patient medical records in its 421 offices and clinics nationwide.
In contrast, only 13 of Kaiser’s 36 hospitals have installed the necessary software, giving 3.2 million enrollees the advantage of an inpatient EHR system, according to the article. Implementation in the remaining hospitals will continue at 14 more hospitals this year and at the nine remaining locations during the next two years.
