Tip of the week: Work with community in emergency planning
Healthcare Security Weekly, May 12, 2008
Joint Commission (formerly JCAHO) standards require hospitals to establish response efforts when local community support isn’t available for at least 96 hours following a catastrophe.
In formulating your emergency response plan, ask your community about possible scenarios. Work with local emergency medical services and health departments to see what they consider the most likely disasters to happen in your region, according to their hazard vulnerability analyses, said Patrick Wade, MUS, CHPA, CPP, director of public safety at St. Bernadine Medical Center in San Bernardino, CA.
To learn more, go to www.hcpro.com/ppv-210882.html. The cost is $10. Briefings on Hospital Safety subscribers received this story with their subscriptions.
