Cases of measles in U.S. at highest level since 2001
Infection Control Monitor, May 2, 2008
Sixty-four cases of measles have been reported in the United States since January, the highest number reported for this time period since 2001, the CDC said May 1.
In 63 cases, people had not been vaccinated and 54 resulted from overseas travel, The New York Times reported. In 16 cases, families refused vaccination for religious or personal reasons, the newspaper said. Fourteen patients were hospitalized.
Measles outbreaks have occurred in nine states. Four states--Arizona, Michigan, New York, and Wisconsin--continue to report cases of measles.
