Two British hospitals employ cardboard nurses to boost hand hygiene
Infection Control Monitor, April 25, 2008
Two Nottinghamshire hospitals in England are using cardboard cut-outs of nurses to fight the spread of infections.
The lifesize figures, featuring nurses in blue hospital uniforms with their hands held up in a stop motion, play an electronic message that reminds patients, visitors, and staff to clean their hands, reported the BBC. The voice recording is activated when people walk by the cardboard figures.
King’s Mill and Newark hospitals are using the cut-outs, the BBC reported. A senior IC nurse said the new initiative has been popular with patients and staff, the BBC said.
