Tip of the week: Set up an antimicrobial drug management program
Infection Control Monitor, April 25, 2008
All healthcare facilities are concerned about the growing number of antibiotic-resistant organisms. The University of California-San Francisco (UCSF) Medical Center is addressing its concern by establishing a formal antimicrobial drug management program to help stop problematic trends.
Creating a similar program is easy, provided a facility has some of the key components in place, such as the necessary computer systems and staff members your organization can compensate for their role in the program, says B. Joseph Guglielmo Jr., PharmD, professor of clinical pharmacy at the UCSF School of Pharmacy and the creator of the program.
