Kennedy backs DM as part of health reform

Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-MA), the influential head of the key Senate health committee, said this month he’s committed to enacting “genuine healthcare reform in the coming year” that will make prevention and disease management (DM) a centerpiece.
“In the U.S. today, people with several chronic conditions typically see an average of 14 different providers and take over 50 different prescriptions during a year,” Kennedy told attendees at a forum on chronic disease sponsored by drugmaker AstraZeneca and congressional newspaper The Hill.
