Online consumer rating service adds healthcare categories to its Web site
EHR Connection, April 14, 2008
Physicians, hospitals, and health insurers now face the same sort of consumer scrutiny as handymen and plumbers, according to a March 25 article in The Indianapolis Star.
Angie’s List, a 600,000 member online consumer rating service, has added 55 new healthcare categories that ask questions about bedside manner and the cleanliness of waiting rooms, the paper reported. The new categories include dentistry, hospitals, insurance providers, and an array of medical specialties, such as orthopedics, obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics, primary care, cardiology, and optometry.
Some physicians complain that it isn’t fair to rate them the way consumers rate the service of skilled tradesmen, the paper reported. However, Angie’s List is not alone. Other healthcare ratings services include HealthGrades, RateMDs, and Revolution Health Group founded by Steve Case, former AOL chief executive.
