Tip: Answer these questions before you transition from paper records to EHRs
EHR Connection, April 7, 2008
Storing medical records will become easier when you transition from a paper-based system to an EHR-after you answer these questions:
- Will electronic records look the same as paper-based records, and is this necessary if the content remains the same?
- Is storing all components of a record in a similar manner necessary to facilitate their retrieval?
- Will electronic records require the same level of chart completion review as paper records?
- Are audits of electronic medical records possible, or will auditors need to rethink the process?
- How do you present the electronic form of a medical record in court?
This tip comes from The No-Hassle Guide to EHR Policies.
