Consider benefits of sit/stand workstations

Lab Safety Advisor, April 1, 2008

Many labs are moving away from the traditional fixed-height workstations in favor of sit/stand workstations. Although this type of adjustable work surface is often found in manufacturing and assembly settings, laboratories are finding the sit/stand workstations have both an ergonomic and practical application for employee comfort.

Sit/stand workstations feature a bi-level table and sit/stand stools with a strong spring that allows the employee to lean on the stool while standing or sit firmly on the stool when there is a need to be seated. Whatever product is used, it is important that employees are able to maintain a neutral posture in both the seated and standing positions.
