Tip of the week: Keep up documentation for survey satisfaction
Healthcare Security Weekly, March 31, 2008
It's important that hospitals prepare documents for their Joint Commission (formerly JCAHO) survey.
"One thing that some folks fail to do is document things as they go along, says Dean Samet, CHSP, director of regulatory compliance services for Smith Seckman Reid, Inc., based in Nashville."Keep up with it as you are performing your different tests, inspections, and tasks. It's necessary so that the organization can take credit for all the hard work that they've done."
"Then, whatever you've been collecting, it should be legible and retrievable at a moment's notice should the Joint Commission's surveyors ask for it," says Samet, who will present the keynote address at HCPro's Second Annual Hospital Safety Symposium, which takes place May 8-9 in Las Vegas. Go to www.greeley.com/seminars for full details and to register.
To read more of Samet's documentation best practices go to www.hcpro.com/ppv-207545.html. The cost is $10. Briefings on Hospital Safety subscribers received this story with their subscriptions.
