NAHIT seeks final comment on proposed definitions
EHR Connection, March 31, 2008
The National Alliance for Health Information Technology (NAHIT) and the Office of the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology seek further input on draft definitions for five terms, according to information on the definitions project Web site.
The second public comment period will continue until April 9 to enable review of the work completed to date with respect to these health information technology (HIT) terms:
- Electronic medical record (EMR)
- Electronic health record (EHR)
- Personal health record (PHR)
- Health information exchange (HIE)
- Regional health information organization (RHIO)
The Network Work Group seeks specific feedback with respect to the definition of HIE.
The intent of this project is to establish definitions that will provide a reference point for standards development activities and policy evaluation and to explain these concepts in language consumers can easily understand, according to the Web site. NAHIT describes the definitions project as the first step in standardizing HIT terms by identifying and categorizing all known definitions through a search for definitions in literature and organizations.
