Tip of the week: Be sure you update risk assessments
Infection Control Monitor, March 28, 2008
When it comes to your annual risk assessments, Joint Commission (formerly JCAHO) surveyors expect to see changes from year-to-year. "The surveyors wanted to see that the hospitals drilled down," says Peggy Prinz Luebbert, MS, MT(ASCP), CIC, CHSP, an independent consultant and owner of Healthcare Interventions in Omaha, NE.
In other words, don't just take last year's risk assessment and copy it. Surveyors want to see a thorough assessment that reflects changes at your hospital, says Luebbert, who recently worked with five hospitals that just completed successful Joint Commission surveys-with no requirements for improvements in infection control at any of the facilities.
To hear more about where Joint Commission surveyors focused and how your facility can comply, join Luebbert and ICP Connie Steed, MSN, RN, CIC, at the April 18 audioconference "Strategies to Handle The Joint Commission's Infection Control Hotspots for 2008." Click here to learn more or to register.
