Tip of the week: When doing rounds report any problems with pests
Healthcare Security Weekly, March 24, 2008
Pigeons, rodents, ants, and other pests are more than just nuisances as spring rolls around. These animals and insects can bring diseases with them, which is enough of a threat to warrant a review of your hospital's pest control policies.
The first priority is to minimize entry points into your building. Ask staff to keep an eye out for problems. For example, monitor your loading areas in the rear of the building, where your facility receives food and supplies that could attract critters. Make sure windows and doors all seal properly and that there are no unscreened windows. Finally, verify that all dumpsters are covered so that rodents can't dig into their contents.
