Jury seated in capital murder trial

Healthcare Security Weekly, March 10, 2008

A jury was selected late last week in the capital murder trial of an escaped inmate accused of killing a hospital security guard and a sheriff's deputy in August 2006, the Associated Press reported.

William Morva faces a possible death sentence if convicted of the killings. Morva, an inmate who was taken to Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg, VA, for treatment of an injury, is accused of overpowering a sheriff's deputy and using the deputy's pistol to kill security guard Derrick McFarland. He is also charged with killing a sheriff's deputy, who was among hundreds of police officers searching for him, one day later on a walking trail near the Virginia Tech campus.
