PPV: Tackle the challenges of portable devices/media and remote access
EHR Connection, March 10, 2008
Controlling the flow and security of PHI within your organization's walls is difficult.
Maintaining control becomes even more difficult when staff members and employees use portable electronic devices and media to take sensitive information beyond those walls.
Section 164.310(d)(1) of the HIPAA security rule requires you to implement policies and procedures that address the removal of portable devices and media. Alleged violations of this standard were among the top five complaints registered by CMS, according to December 2007 enforcement statistics.

The cost is $10. Briefings on HIPAA subscribers can sign on for free access.
