CCHIT announces plans to expand certification program

The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT) announced plans to expand the certification program during 2009 at last month's Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society conference, according to a February 25 press release.
The proposed expansion areas include behavioral health, long-term care, personal health records, and other medical specialties that CCHIT will determine later this spring, according to the CCHIT press release.
CCHIT also announced the launch of a new Web site designed to help educate physicians with respect to EHR selection and the value of selecting CCHIT Certified® products. The press release lists goals of the site as helping physicians:
- Assess readiness for EHR implementation
- Begin the selection process
- Prepare for contract negotiations and purchase
